No Other Name

Paul DreillingChurch News

It’s amazing how the Lord shows us Biblical object lessons if we are looking for them. This past weekend we flew to the Midwest for a family reunion.  After we got our boarding passes, we went through airport security.   No matter what kind of ticket folks had, First Class or economy, we all had our blood pressures raised as the airport security folks made everyone take off their shoes, have their bags scanned, and go through the body scanners.  There is no other way to get to our destination.

In the first century, the Jewish leaders thought they were in a different class and that their observance of the law would give them favor with God.  They had crucified Jesus and in Acts 4 they arrested Peter and John for healing a lame man and spreading this good news.  Like many today, they struggled with the fact that Jesus was the only way that someone could be saved.  In his defense, Peter responded, This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you…And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

The hymn writer put it this way,

Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out.

Refrain: I need no other argument,
I need no other plea;
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me

MOPS kicks off its fall semester Monday! MOPS is for moms at all stages of the early parenting journey, from pregnancy through preschool. We meet in the Mizpah Room from 9:15-11:30 for hot coffee and brunch while volunteers love on our kiddos. This year our theme is “Free Indeed.” Together, we will encourage and be encouraged by the freedom we have in Christ as women, wives, and mothers to accept His love, guide our families, and encourage those mothers coming behind us.
