Do you need a Vacation?

Do you need a vacation

“The bow too tensely strung is easily broken” – Publilius Syrus (42 B.C.) Although this was written many years ago, this truth lives on until today. Doctors tell us that there are many health problems related to stress including obesity, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, depression and asthma. Although Jesus did not take a vacation, he did take times of refreshing and encouraged his disciples to do the same. Jesus says to his disciples, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest (Mark 6:31).

In a few weeks school will be out and summer will be upon us. Hopefully you are planning on taking a week or two and going on a vacation. You can have a special time with your kids when you sit down to plan your vacation. Instead of getting out the maps and brochures, we now can go on-line and see what is out there. I recommend for one summer vacation a road trip to the amazing National Parks in our country. See Mt. Rushmore, a rodeo in Cody, WY, or the geysers of Yellowstone. Swim in the Salt Lake, visit Whit’s End at Focus on the Family in CO, or ride horses into Bryce or the Grand Canyon. You say, “How can we afford to stay in all these places?” For you adventurous ones, what about buying a tent and camping along the way?

Maybe going to the beach and chilling is more your speed, but the point is to take a break from your daily work and rigors. Most of the summer rentals rent by the week. Although this is good for the owners, it’s also good for us since a full week allows us to truly rest. Christians are no longer under the law of the Sabbath, yet the idea of incorporating rest into our lives is still so important. Where are you going on vacation?

The King and His Kingdom

Preparing for Sunday

Kingdom Messengers
Kingdom Assurance (Matthew 11:1-24)

Scripture Reading:
Isaiah 8:11-18
For the Lord spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: “Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
And he will become a sanctuary and a stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many shall stumble on it. They shall fall and be broken; they shall be snared and taken.”Bind up the testimony; seal the teaching among my disciples.
I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him.
Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.

Special Missions Report

Normally our missionaries give their reports on Sunday evening to provide an opportunity for us to not only hear their report but for the WMF ladies to give them a reception. However, our newest missionaries, Chuck and Andie Wade, have come from the field to visit their families and offered to give us an update. If you would like to hear their report, join us on Sunday, May 14th at 9:30 during the Sunday school hour in the Sanctuary.
